Overview

This article will walk you through how to create a written exam in SmarterProctoring, from setting up your exam details to configuring the settings needed to get your students started.

How to Create a Written Exam

1. Navigate to the Course Dashboard within SmarterProctoring.

2. Click on the New Exam box in the top right corner.

3. You will want to choose Create New.

NOTE: Import Exam is only available with Canvas LMS. This option will import basic information from the LMS to create the exam.

4. On the Exam Details page, use the dropdown menu and select Written Exam.

5. Fill in the necessary fields, marked with an asterisk, then click Continue.

Exam Details Explained

a. Exam Name - Choose the appropriate name to identify the exam.

b. Duration - The amount of time students will have to complete the exam once started.

c. Consecutive Attempts Allowed - The number of times a learner can attempt the exam per session.

d. Exam Opens - The date and time the exam is set to open.

e. Exam Closes - The date and time the exam is set to close.

f. Scheduling Window - When turned on, students will only be allowed to schedule a testing session during a designated window of time. This is separate from when they will actually take the exam.

g. Exam File - Instructors should upload the exam and all materials here so that proctors have access to print prior to the testing sessions. Students do not have access to files uploaded here.

5. On the Permitted Items page, toggle selections on/off to identify items that will be permitted for the exam. All of the information on the permitted items will be displayed for the student and proctor prior to the exam.

When finished, click Continue.

Details of each field toggled ‘on’ can be added if necessary.

6. On the Notes page, you can provide details for both students and proctors. When completed, click Continue.

As a reminder, notes for proctors will not be visible to students.

7. On the Proctor Settings page, you will want to toggle on in person testing modality you wish to use, then click Continue.

A more in depth breakdown of Instructor as Proctor settings can be found HERE.

8. On the Confirmation page, review all the exam information and make corrections if needed by clicking Back. Once details of the exam are correct, click Confirm.

The exam has now been created and will appear in your SmarterProctoring dashboard.
