Overview
Connecting an exam directly from Canvas allows exam settings to sync automatically from the LMS, eliminating the need to manually re-enter them during setup. This includes custom exam assignments, which carry over exactly as configured in Canvas.

How to Connect an Online Exam from Canvas
1. Navigate to the Course Dashboard within SmarterProctoring.
2. Click on the New Exam box in the top right corner.
3. All Canvas created exams will be shown. Locate the exam you wish to connect and click Connect.
Note: If an exam is missing a piece of information which prevents it from being connected, it will be notated on the right. If you wish to make the needed corrections quickly, clicking the quiz name will open the editing page in a new tab.
4. On the Exam Details page you will only be able to add a Scheduling Window (a) and any reference materials for students (b), when complete click Continue.
5. On the Permitted Items page, toggle selections on/off to identify items that will be permitted for the exam. All of the information on the permitted items will be displayed for the student and proctor prior to the exam.
When finished, click Continue.
6. Details of each field toggled ‘on’ can be added if necessary. Note: Make sure to select the appropriate calculator from the drop down.
7. On the Notes page, you can provide details for both students and proctors. When completed, click Continue.
As a reminder, notes for proctors will not be visible to students.
8. On the Proctor Settings page, you will want to toggle on testing modality you wish to use.
Once toggled on, you will be able to customize lockdown settings. Please note that some administrators may lock settings they want to always be enabled. There are also Strict and Lenient presets should you choose to use those. Clicking on each item will enable/disable them. When settings are finalized, click Continue.

9. On the Confirmation page, review all the exam information and make corrections if needed by clicking Back. Once details of the exam are correct, click Confirm.
How to Manually Sync Connected Exams
Connected exams are automatically synced with Canvas. However if there is a time where you want to ensure changes (i.e. exam assignments or student details) are updated manually, you can follow the steps below:
Within the SmarterProctoring dashboard, click View Exam for the desired exam.
Click on the three dots to the right of the Edit Exam button.
Select Canvas Connection.
On the Canvas Connection window you will see several details:
Confirmation that the exam is synced successfully.
The title and LMS ID for the exam.
The date and time of the most recent sync.
Sync Now - click this button to manually sync the exam.
View In Canvas - use this button to jump directly to the quiz settings page within Canvas (helpful if you want to make any additional changes that will take effect with the next sync).
You can use the Sync Now button to conduct a manual sync at any time. When finished with the sync, use the X in the corner to close the Canvas Connection window.
Tips & Considerations During Exam Creation in SmarterProctoring
The ClassCalc, Second Camera and Secure Session App options will only be available if turned on for your entire organization at the admin level.
Verify ID will most likely be locked On within Proctor Settings to prompt the students to capture their headshot and ID during onboarding, this is to ensure the images are saved for the session recording and playback.
Utilizing the Scheduling Window option when creating an exam will help alleviate possible scheduling conflicts between students and proctors.
